On Thursday afternoon I visited the Humanity Salon, located in Kent Washington. We got some great shots of the staff, the beautiful location and in large part captured the reason this business is unique. As a client, you have a choice of how the profits from their services are donated. 20% of all sales from the salon are donated to partner organizations. They partner with such organizations as World Vision, the Kent Food Bank, Katherine's House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, WWEE and the Hope Chest. Humanity Salon is giving hope to the hopeless and giving purpose to the comfortable.

Yesterday was Stacy & Blake's BIG day! It was easy to see that with a strong support system of family and friends, the love they share for each other and their faith... this marriage is destined for beautiful times ahead. The ceremony was lovely and the reception was yummy. Each guest was able to create their own sundae, with a multitude of toppings to choose from. It was a privilege to be a part of their day and I wish the happy couple an amazing Hawaiian honeymoon!

Gorgeous weather, natural setting, a relaxed bride & groom, a few tree houses and a wide circle of friends equal a spectacular day filled with love. Amy & Jim were married this afternoon at Treehouse Point in Issaquah and it was so much fun. I had a hard time picking out which few photos I wanted to put on here to sum up what a great day we had. Amy and I were both bridesmaids in our friends wedding a few years back and it was so fun to see her again and play a special role in capturing her wedding day. Yesterday afternoon I had the opportunity to do a session with baby Carson. He is about a month old and just adorable. I did Tim & Bobbie's maternity session back in June and was so excited to be able to capture a few images of him now. He is a very alert baby and has the brightest blue eyes. It was a great time!

I just returned from a 4 day vacation in Seaside Oregon with the family. It was relaxing, entertaining and overall fun being able to look out of the hotel window right out to the beach. Did some antique shopping and bought a few funky pieces to add to my growing collection of randomness, ate some cheese in Tillamook, took nightly walks down the boardwalk and ended with a fire on the beach.

This last week I had the opportunity to do two baby sessions, one of a 6 day old and the other of a 5 month old. I had such a great time! Both couples were past wedding clients, which is always a nice treat to catch up with them. I have to admit that I absolutely love capturing the bond between parent and child, as well as the innocence you can see in a babies eyes. Just darling. Here are a few of the pictures;

Today started out with an open highway, surrounded by semi trucks on my way to see a tree house. I will be shooting a wedding in a few weeks in Issaquah and decided to drop in and see the location as I hadn't been there before. Wanted to get a lay of the land and see where we would want to take pictures on the wedding day. What a beautiful and completely natural venue! After I took a few pictures, I got back into the car and took a detour on the way home pulling into the parking lot at Snoqualmie Falls. Unfortunately, I didn't know I would be making this stop when I left the house this morning, so my heels didn't seem like the smartest thing to try and hike to the bottom in. I did enjoy the view from the lookout, sat on a bench for awhile in the overcast weather, taking a few moments of silence (at least until the school bus of children pulled up)... overall a joyous day.

friday bliss

...a good book, a long walk on a beautiful beach, family gatherings during the sweet scent of summer, knowing that you're only a few hours from the weekend... these are wonderful thoughts and events. Today my Friday bliss moment consists of chocolate chip mint ice cream & party planning. Take a moment today or this weekend and reflect on the little joys in your life, no matter how big or how small, be thankful that they've happened to you.

A few things I'm truly blessed by;

- being loved & loving those around me
- the air that filled my lungs this morning, meaning that I have another day on Earth to make worthwhile
- a deep sense of self
- believing without doubt that the dreams I hold deep in my heart will come to pass
- knowing that the places I have traveled to have forever changed me & I can't wait to have further explorations on this great big planet we live on
- music that continually fills my office, car and life... love dancing to my own soundtrack of life!

shaylee | beautiful baby girl

Gorgeous, the one word that hit me when I saw baby Shaylee up close and personal. What a stunning baby with incredibly striking features. She was born last Sunday and to celebrate her first week, a picture session seemed rather fitting. Tyson and Andrea are definitely proud parents and it is extremely easy to see the love they both have for their new baby girl. Our session today was filled with silence as we tried to get baby Shay to sleep, laughter as we each took turns being peed on and overall a wonderful time capturing each moment. colleen & josh | st. andrews wedding

One of my favorite parts about the job I get to do, is reconnecting with families that I have worked with in the past. On Friday evening, Josh & Colleen's wedding took place at St. Andrews Church with their reception being held at High Cedars Golf Course. In 2006 I shot Sarah & Tyler's wedding in Tacoma (Sarah's brother Josh was the groom yesterday). I feel that creating a bond with my clients is extremely important. I cannot emphasize in enough ways how much I truly love what I do! Even though yesterday was another hot one, with the sun beating down on us, the entire bridal party were amazing. They dealt with the heat and we captured some beautiful images outside the church and with the vintage getaway car. Colleen was a gorgeous bride and Josh was quite a handsome groom, an absolutely stunning couple. Congratulations to you and your families!

109, is that even possible in Seattle? Well I guess it is when I got into my car this afternoon and the outside temp read 109. Other than almost melting every time I step outside, today was a great day to get out. I had lunch this afternoon with Laura and Chris from Edit 1 Media, Seattle Washington. They are a wonderful couple and I must say amazing videographers. It is easy to see that they love what they do and their passion truly shows through in their work. I watched a sample DVD of a few weddings they have shot and as weird as I might sound, found myself crying because they were such beautiful videos. I am excited to see what is in store for them as they continue to win awards and create works of art for their clients.

west coast road trip | july 2009

My friend Katie & I decided that it would be fun to take a 10 day road trip from Seattle down to San Diego, California and back up the Oregon Coast. We stopped in San Francisco for a tour of Alcatraz & a ride on a cable car, then down to Anaheim, with a stop in Hollywood and Disneyland, off to San Diego where the weather was 'hot' and Balboa as well as Coronado were beautiful. On our way home we took the 101 up the Oregon Coast and the views we saw from Gold Beach to the lookout at Cape Foulweather, along Cannon Beach and into Tillamook were absolutely stunning to say the least. It was refreshing, adventurous and overall a wonderful experience. Feel free to check out some of the images I captured along the way...

julie & morgan | port townsend wedding

WOW, we are having amazing weather lately, welcome to summer! I had the honor of shooting Julie & Morgan's wedding in Port Townsend Washington at Chetzemoka Park yesterday. I woke up pretty early (around 6am) to finish getting a few final items completed before my 2.5 hour trek to meet the bridal party. I decided to treat myself to breakfast about half way through the drive, partially because they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day right? Just needed to be sure that I was on my game.

We had a few laughs with the crazy wind and Julie's veil trying to attack Morgan during the pre ceremony shoot, luckily there was no wind during the outdoor ceremony. I met Julie & Morgan last year, did their engagement session about a month ago and it was lovely to be a part of capturing their special day. I am excited to share a few of the images with you and wish the happy couple a lifetime of happiness in this new journey. Congrats!

4th of July | Camping

Other than the sinus infection I am dealing with, the 4th of July in Yakima was wonderful. Time was spent with family, reminiscing during our meals about past trips and all of the memories we have created together. The weather was 100+ the entire visit and the pool was lovely. I spent many hours lounging by the pool, reading and relaxing, which was a nice treat. The fireworks show was just down the street, so we gathered our folding chairs, bug spray and cameras to take in the festivities. Overall it was a much needed break from reality as we celebrate our country and our freedom. I hope that you and your family had a beautiful time creating your own moments to reflect on in the future.

Today, a few of my friends and I drove the long but short distance to Deception Pass. After living in Washington my entire life, I am truly starting to realize how many sights I have yet to see and experience. We parked our car and started out on the walk over the bridge, now that is one high bridge that I'll admit is kind of scary to walk over. I kept my composure most of the time (or at least long enough to get this picture and get to the other side) except for when the semi trucks came barreling over the bridge, appearing to head straight for me. The day was absolutely gorgeous and the view was breath taking. I cannot wait to see what adventure Washington State will offer next!

I have recently become a huge fan of what I like to refer to as "Natural Beauty"... after the wedding photography sessions. What this consists of is hitting up all of the places that, you as a couple have created memories at. Whether it be the location of your first date, the coffee shop you frequent, the fair you've always meant to get to but never took the time to visit or the place you wished you'd taken your wedding pictures at but maybe didn't have time to get to.

My friends Scott & Holly recently did a session just like this. They took a spin on a carousel as well as playing some hip hop at EZ Street Records, wrote a message in sidewalk chalk and grabbed a sundae at one of their favorite local 5 Spot just to name a few of the locations we visited. It was a relaxing and entertaining way to spend our late Monday afternoon as the "Congratulations" from strangers made us chuckle a little. This session comes about three and half years after the actual wedding date, I think that was part of the fun. Here are just a few of the images we captured...

alexa's beautiful family | gas works park

On Sunday I spent the later part of my morning with Alexa Johnson (owner of Fiore Blossoms) and her family as we explored Gas Works Park in Seattle. The family picture session was filled with laughter, smiles and a few random moments of grumpiness from the boys. (honestly though, when children are throwing a tantrum or unhappy for one reason or another, the pictures you tend to get are sometimes the funniest ones of the day) I had a wonderful time capturing their family as they interacted with one another and am already looking forward to future sessions.

Earlier this week I took Michael on an impromptu photo session, as the weather was amazing and I thought it'd be fun to see what kind of shots we could get. Little did we know that it seemed to be "field trip day" for all of the local school children. It is the evening before Steph & Nick's wedding and I'm in preparation mode. Of course I'm doing my OCD thing of checking and rechecking batteries, digital media cards, photog must take lists/ timelines, outfit ironed, lenses, flashes... etc etc. It has been an amazing week in Chicago, minus a few gloomy days of rain and fog. The weather is supposed to be wonderful tomorrow and I know we're all looking forward to a little sunshine. Today we had an afternoon of tea and laughter with the bride before heading to rehearsal at the church, followed up with a delicious dinner. We're all looking forward to tomorrow, knowing that it is going to be such a great day! More to follow...

Cubs Fans

Yesterday was spent catching the blue line to the red line for an arrival destination of Wrigley Field. Upon entering the train, a sea of red and blue engulfed us as jerseys, jackets, hats, t-shirts and the like became the norm. Feeling slightly out of place, we made a quick stop into a few shops around the field to purchase a CUBS sweatshirt. Now, feeling like a member of the fan club we found our seats and began cheering with the rest of the crowd. It was so great to experience my first Cubs game at this historic location.

I am currently in Chicago preparing for Stephanie & Nick's wedding on Saturday, May 30... it will be a great week of capturing the journey to the alter. I feel honored as well as privileged to have a role in their big day. I will post an update of their wedding as soon as I am able. The weather is supposed to be lovely on Saturday which should make for amazing images. I got my first "sneak peek" of Steph's dress last night, absolutely stunning! We'll be sightseeing throughout the week, taking in a baseball game at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, barbecuing on Thursday evening, rehearsal & dinner on Friday and for the grand finale... celebrating the union of a couple who exude the true meaning of love.

truly inspired

Whether it be a photographer, a painter, a musician and the like, I am often inspired by others stories. I had the opportunity to shoot some photos of Scott Erickson (painter extraordinaire) while I was in DC for the WV Acting on Aids Summit.

Scott started, "The Transpire Project" which is a group of artists who are seeking to bring the making of art – the creative process – into public places. There is something that happens when one experiences art being made. The witnessing of such events communicates to the deepest parts of the heart. It’s an unveiling of that which is unseen. And it’s a wicked cool experience. We desire to translate that which words cannot define. We hope to inspire the human spirit. And we yearn to create authentic and unique experiences.

figuring it out

While writing this blog for my business it's often in the back of my mind about how personal I should allow myself to become, to truly let my vulnerable side be seen. I decided that in order to fully let my clients and those who may stumble upon this site into my real life, I had to be an open book. Last year was one of the toughest years of my life and has dramatically changed the person I am and the direction I am living my life in.

In March of 2008, I returned from a two month trek abroad and was trying to settle back into my normal life. Two weeks into being home, I started experiencing severe leg and chest pain. Three days into my symptoms I finally called the doctors office and within two hours had an ultrasound on my leg, multiple chest scans as well as x-rays and was admitted into the ER. The results were not something I thought I'd ever hear in my lifetime.

My leg and both of my lungs had multiple blood clots in them. The words, "you're lucky to be alive" and "you're lucky you came in when you did" became common place with every nurse and doctor that came into my room. I spent 8 days, bedridden in the hospital with a weakening body and spirit. I was in three different rooms with a variety of roommates to account for. My life has been changed. It has been a year of healing both physically and emotionally, but I sincerely believe that everything we go through in life is for a reason.

Internal scar tissue remains as a reminder that I am blessed. Blessed to not only be alive, but to know that each breath I take and day I am given will be lived to their fullest. Photography is my passion and joy. To be a part of another human beings journey, if only for a short time, is a miracle to me and I do not take my job for granted. I am thankful to each person who has allowed me the privilege to walk along side them to capture the vision of their life. We each have a story to tell and you have now glanced through a tiny window into a part of mine.

I live without regret, with immense hope, joy beyond belief, lofty goals, renewed passion and a sense that each day is a gift.

This past Friday afternoon I had the opportunity to shoot Julia's Senior Picture Session. She is a beautiful young woman with such a kind spirit about her. We had a wonderful time, especially with the amazing weather that presented itself that day! This afternoon I met with two of my past wedding clients at their chiropractic office in Tacoma. We had planned to take pictures of their working space as well as the two of them, but due to the extremely rainy weather we've been experiencing decided to do half of our shoot today and the rest when the weather has redeemed itself. Laelle and Paul are entering their second year in business as a husband and wife chiropractic team. They care deeply about the health and well being of their patients as well as their family and friends. Laelle is expecting their first child, due in a few months, which is so exciting! monuments & memorials

I also spent time in DC at the Lincoln Memorial, Iwo Jima, the World War II Memorial, Washington Monument, Union Station, the Reflecting Pool, the White House and the Capital Building. It is humbling to see the many names on the war memorials as well as reading the words that surround the Lincoln Memorial. It brings you back to where our nation began and inspires you to play a role in the making of where we are going.

While in Washington DC this last week, I had the opportunity to visit a few of the monuments & memorials that help us remember those who have gone before us. One of the most moving memorials for me was the Arlington Cemetery. Upon arrival you are told that over 320,000 servicemen and their family members rest on the 624 acres of Virginia land across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial. About 27 burials are conducted every weekday.

Imagine standing on marble stairs among a handful of United States Veterans, as the changing of the guard is taking place. The silence and respect, absolutely take your breath away. While attending the timeless ritual of honor at the Tomb of the Unknowns, the sentinel paces 21 steps down the mat before the tomb, pauses 21 seconds, and returns. "Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God" reads the inscription on the sarcophagus of the World War I soldier entombed here in 1921. Joining their comrade, unknown servicemen from World War II and Korea, lie in crypts beneath slabs flush with the terrace paving.

It honestly took all I had within in me to hold back the many tears that wanted to find their way down my cheeks. To truly understand the sacrifice as you look upon the white headstones, it's a moment that will live within me forever.

summit on the hill

Currently, I am in Washington DC for the second annual World Vision - Acting on Aids, Summit on the Hill. Over the next few days I will be working to capture the emotion and real life atmosphere that surrounds the students as they join hundreds of other advocates through the historic Mobilization to End Poverty. It is a true honor to play a role in documenting the journey that so many have worked tirelessly to promote.

World Vision is a Christian Humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. They bring skills across many areas of expertise to each community where they work in nearly 100 countries, including the United States, enabling us to care for children's physical, social and emotional well-being. World Vision, along with many additional organizations are partnering with Sojourners in The Mobilization to End Poverty.

Please pray for the participants, organizers and those around the world who are currently suffering from poverty, malnutrition and disease. It only takes one person to make a difference in another's life, think about the global impact if we all step up.

stephanie & nick | engagement session

It was a normal rainy day in Seattle that turned into an extraordinary afternoon. My good friend Stephanie will be marrying Nick (who I got to meet today) at the end of May in Chicago. We spent most of the early afternoon traveling around Seattle to capture not only our hometown atmosphere at its best but also the personalities and love that define Steph & Nick. There was lots of laughter, scattered raindrops and smiles to last a lifetime. I really enjoyed spending the day creating memories of a couple whose love you can see all around them. It's not only shown in their eyes when they look at one another, but it's actually in the air that encircles them. I am privileged to also be their wedding photographer and will be spending the last week of May in Chicago. Congrats you two, can't wait to see and hear about your journey ahead!

senior picture session tips

Here are a few tips when getting ready for your session;

Nails - Be sure to have clean and filed nails, a clear, light pink, red or color that compliments your outfit works nicely. You fingers may show in some photos, as well as a few close up images, you will want to be sure that they are presentable.

Make-up - Use a fresh tube of mascara so you don't have clumps. Your eyelashes are going to show in closeups and mascara clumps will stand out. As for eyeshadow and liner, it is best to stick with neutral colors, such as grays and browns. Avoid light pastels, highly frosted shadows and any form of glitter. (glitter will show up as tiny white spots around your eyes or on your face depending on where it is located)

Hair - Don't use a lot of hairspray, gel or other product in your hair as it should move with you when you tilt your head and blow nicely in the breeze. Remember to bring a hairbrush or comb to your session. You can also bring hairspray or product with you to do any minor touch up's that may be needed.

Wardrobe - Short skirts or dresses really limit your posing options, please keep this in mind when choosing your clothes. The goal is for your face to be prominent, not the clothing. For this reason, it is discouraged to wear too busy of a pattern or extremely bright colors, as it tends to draw the eye to the clothes instead of you.

Please note: Having a basic outfit and using bright or patterned accessories works really well.

You want to create a time less look. Never wear a lighter color pant with a darker color top, as this will tend to make your lower half look bigger than your upeer half. Wrinkles will show in your portraits. If your eye can see the wrinkles, the camera will as well. Be sure to iron clothing if necessary and bring items that tend to wrinkle easily on a hanger. It is also recommended to check clothing for stains and be sure all clothing is clean.

April started out on a high note. Back in the day, I was Miss Auburn 2001 and during my time in competition had a little sister contestant that came to all of the events with me. At that time she was 10 years old and as the years have seemed to pass too quickly, she is now a senior in high school. I had the opportunity to do Alisha's senior picture session today! We had the most amazing weather, spent time recapturing old memories as well as comprehending the vision of who she is at this moment. Alisha is theatrical and enjoys spending time on the stage. On the way to our location, we encountered a few unexpected detours due to a parade but this actually become a blessing in disguise as I found a few new spots I'd never been to before. We found an old theater, a random wall and a variety of textures along the way. I believe that we were able to bring to life images that reflect the young woman she is and will become. Last week I spent some time in Texas visiting my brother and sister in law. It was wonderful to see them, enjoy a little sunshine (it is almost April and somehow it is still snowing in Seattle!) and an abundance of Texas cuisine. It was my first trip to the lone star state and it is a beautiful part of the country, that is for certain. I am a big fan of stars, so seeing the Texas Star everywhere was really fun. I took some pictures in the downtown Waco area that I felt were worth sharing.

A few of them are of Waco’s Historic Suspension Bridge that was the longest single-span suspension bridge west of the Mississippi when it was completed in 1870. The bridge was built with cable supplied by the John Roebling Co., who built the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. Crucial to traders and travelers for well over a century, the bridge stands as an icon of Waco history and is the centerpiece of many community festivals and events. It also contains nearly 3 million bricks.

In March, I had the opportunity to do a shoot with Michael & Amy in London, England. They are not only amazing individuals but when together you can sense the love they share in the air that surrounds them. We had a wonderful afternoon (although I will admit it was awfully cold that day) capturing the true essence of who they are. I am blessed by their friendship and wanted to share a few of the images we captured below.

During my recent travels through Europe, I not only experienced real life in the making but discovered once again this intense passion I have for capturing it. I have enjoyed taking pictures for some time now, but to really become a part of what you do, that is something I’ve been waiting for. A feeling of being complete, fully in the moment you are immersed in. I learn new things on a daily basis, believing that everyday is a gift I am unwrapping. To have something that pulls at your heartstrings, that is truly living. Welcome to a piece of my world as we explore life together, one miracle at a time.

who I am

If I were to write about myself one afternoon while looking into a mirror, I might say that I am determined. It wouldn’t be the physical traits I would focus on and write about, it would be the characteristics that you are unable to see by merely holding a mirror up to who I am. I have big dreams and lofty goals, I see the world as one canvas with many colors. Five years ago, I launched Beautiful Endings Photography knowing I was in for a bumpy ride. Now mind you that a bumpy ride is not always a bad thing. It’s taking a path less traveled, creating a road where you didn’t see one before. Believing, if only for a minute, that you can do anything.

From conception, to reality, through smiles and around corners, it became a part of me. This extension of the woman I have been seeking, showing through in an artistic expression of wonder. I am doing what I love and that is beautiful. I currently work with a wide array of clientele and projects that are lining up for this year. I shoot indoor, outdoor, through windows, beyond shadows and everything in between. I look forward to walking along the journey you are currently on, capturing the vision you have for the images you deserve.
